It is easy for the suspension system in your car to be overlooked. Many people believe that the suspension's only function is to give you a smooth ride, so it's often ignored. However, if your suspension is not functioning well, you will have difficulty controlling your vehicle when you try stopping or turning.

How will you know if your car is in need of auto repair? Here are several signs to look out for.

1. Rough Ride

Have you ever gone over a bump in the road or dropped in a hole? How did it feel? If you felt your car shake or bounce, it's a good indication that your shocks or struts are wearing out. It's time to replace your car's suspension system.

2. Drifting or Pulling

If your car pulls to the left or right while you're driving, your suspension system needs repair. This happens when the shocks can no longer keep your car steady on the road and can result in accidents. If you experience this, take your car in to your mechanic as soon as possible.

3. Nose Dive, Lean Back, or Roll

When your shocks are worn out, you may find your car will make some unusual moves. If you apply the brakes firmly, it nose dives (leans forward). If you try accelerating, your car may lean backward. Your car may also lean from side to side when you take corners. All three scenarios are indicators of a bad suspension system.

4. Difficult to Steer

Have you ever found it hard to turn your steering even when you are driving slowly? This is another symptom of a failing component in your car's suspension system. Low power steering fluid, a loose steering belt, or a leaking steering rack may be the root cause.

5. One Corner Sits Low

Take a look at your car while it is on level ground. Does one corner look lower than the others? Or do you hear a clunk sound when you go over bumps? You may have a blown shock that impacts the functionality of the springs in your car. A damaged spring will cause one corner of your car to sit low since it can no longer support the weight of your car.

Pay attention to your car and take note of any unusual sounds or activities. For expert auto services, take your car into the dealership or your consult trusted mechanic.
