When purchasing an enclosed trailer, you want to make sure that it meets all of your needs. For it to meet your needs, you need to know what you are using it for and how you will be hauling it. From there, there are multiple materials and construction choices you need to make to get the trailer to fit your particular needs.

Door Style

First, you need to consider what type of door you want. Do you want a barn door-style door that swings open and allows access to the back of the trailer? Or do you want a ramp-style door that you pull down to form a ramp?

With an enclosed trailer, you can also add a door to the side of the trailer if you want additional access to the trailer. You can add a house-style door to the side of the trailer and add a fold-up step to assist with getting into the trailer

Roof Style

Second, you need to consider what style of roof you want. You can have a flat roof or a rounded roof. A flat roof will give your trailer a more boxy look it. A rounded roof will give you a little extra height in the middle of your trailer. A rounded roof is also ideal if you store or keep your trailer anywhere where it snows; the snow will slide right off a rounded roof.

Material

Third, you need to consider what type of material you want the trailer to be made from. The two most common materials for enclosed trailers are steel or aluminum. Both are very sturdy materials.

The aluminum used to construct enclosed trailers is an alloy that is stronger than traditional aluminum, although it can get damaged easier than a steel trailer. It is also more lightweight, which is great if you are hauling the trailer with something like a crossover or SUV instead of a truck. You can get better gas mileage and enjoy a higher payload capacity since the trailer's weight is lower. Aluminum is also resistant to rust and corrosion.

Steel trailers are strong and durable and hard to damage. You do have to watch out for rust and keep the steel painted to prevent rust. Steel trailers tend to be more affordable up-front.

Sizing

Enclosed trailers do not all come in the same size. They come in different lengths and widths. You need to know how wide you want the trailer and how long you want the trailer. You can generally increase the length in increments of either half a foot or a foot, depending on the manufacturer. You can purchase a standard trailer or have a trailer custom-made to the exact size you want.

Axles

Finally, you need to decide what type of axles you need on the trailer. If you intend to haul heavier items on rougher roads, you will want to get a tandem axle. A tandem axle will cost you more than a single axle, but it will give you a higher degree of flexibility with the weight of the loads you can haul and the type of roads you can drive on.

When looking at an enclosed trailer, you need to make a lot of decisions to find the right trailer for your needs. You need to choose the material of the trailer, the style of doors, the style of roof, and the overall size of the trailer. You also need to decide what type of axles you want on the trailer. From there, you can further customize the inside of the trailer to fit your needs as well. Think carefully about what you need the trailer for and how you intend to use it so you can get an enclosed trailer that fits your needs.
